Treat Yo Self

Treat Yo Self

That’s what I’m talking about.

That’s right.  Go ahead.  Indulge.  Treat yourself.

You deserve it!

After dealing with all the shenanigans MS has to offer…the sleepless nights, the falls, constant potty breaks, spasms, vertigo, fatigue, you name it–you also had to cope with a pandemic in 2020!

Add it up and you are MORE than deserving of a treat of somethin-somethin.

It doesn’t have to be anything big–or expensive.  Just something you enjoy.  A well-earned pat on the back for your hard work.

I began my tradition of treating myself many, many years ago while Christmas shopping at the mall.  Tired, after fighting the crowds, I would buy myself a hot, gooey cinnamon bun from the kiosk.  My once-a-year treat for a job well done.

Thank God not scratch ‘N sniff.

How about a little self-indulgence?

Give yourself a foot rub.  Work those toes.  Waggle your lazy ankles.

We, as MSers, may not take many steps per day, but your tired dogs will still appreciate the attention.

My feet often get dry & craggily so I slather them up with some lotion from time to time.

I took a hot shower the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it.  My showers are usually tepid but it was cold outside–I was cold, so I treated myself to a shower hot enough to steam the mirror.  (‘Twas a bonus too as I didn’t have to see the reflection of my naked ass!)

Always be aware of what’s in the background of your pics!

Treat yourself with a bouquet of flowers…or Reynold’s Oven Cooking bags.

The vivid colors & fragrance of fresh flowers (and/or roast turkey) are truly spectacular!

Treat yourself for taking your meds.

For not missing a day of vitamin D.

For making your appointments and doing what the doctor says.

Treat yourself for moving what you can as much as you can.

For stretching…arms, legs, fingers, neck…again, whatever you can as much as you can.

Sappy, I know.

For watching what you eat.

Getting your fruits & veggies on a daily basis.

And drinking water.

You deserve a treat for keeping your mind occupied–reading, doing puzzles & math games.

For staying connected with others…calling, texting & emailing.

You have done LOTS to earn treating yourself with something extra.

That’s right.  Go ahead.  You deserve it!

P.S.

Sorry, no centerfold.

My Odd Sock was proudly featured in the Fall 20202 issue of Multiple Sclerosis Foundation’s magazine “MS Ficus.”

Unfortunately they mistitled it “Old Sock Blog.”

Oh well, any publicity is good publicity, right?

My many thanks to the MS Foundation for the opportunity!

Keep moving.

  1. Happy December and today is my birthday! I’m gonna treat myself to a carmel frapacino for my birthday! It doesn’t take much and the feet…
Beyond help!!! Lol thanks for making my day Doug 😊

    1. Joanne,
Hap-hap-happy birthday Joanne! Have a great day & enjoy your caramel treat. Always appreciate hearing from you!

    2. Hi Joanne,

My birthday was November 30th and I treated myself to a Toasted White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino. Us MSer’s think alike 🙂

  2. The past year-and-a-half I splurged on 2 big-ticket items. The first was an electric patient lift to replace a manual lyft which I have needed to use for the past 12 years. It makes my transfer in and out of bed so much easier.

My second big splurge was I landscaped my front yard complete with a birdbath. I spend a lot of time looking out my front picture window, especially when I’m on the phone, or when I want to watch and see what is going on outside. I wanted to look out and see a pretty lawn, and maybe a bird, not some scraggly old bushes.

My guilty pleasure is Starbucks. My next-door neighbor knows to let me know if he is going out to run an errand, and I give him my Starbucks order. If he is not going out I bribe him by telling him I will buy his wife a Starbucks if he goes for me.

    1. Margaret,
Your splurge purchases are well deserved! (I’m a window-looker myself!)
And indulging in a guilty pleasure is certainly worth its weight in gold (and Starbucks is almost as expensive as gold!).
Thanks for sharing your comment. Always an insightful journey!
