Food Allergies & MS

Food Allergies & MS

Let’s eat!

Researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital sought to find a connection between an allergy & the activity of inflammatory disease.

Their work found new evidence linking food allergies with relapses of multiple sclerosis.  And results were published just this week in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry.

(My copy was somehow lost in the mail and replaced by an issue of US Weekly.  Therefore I was unable to read the complete study but I DID learn about Arianna Grande’s new beau.)

Let’s get serious.

Though the fine work done by Brigham and Women’s Hospital was legit and the published results promising…the following mumbo-jumbo is my own ridiculous thinking of foods I could EASILY AVOID if found to be harmful to my multiple sclerosis.

Here is my list…..

Brussel Sprouts

Raw Oysters

Black Licorice

Jello Salad. Yuck all the way around.

(I have never tasted a wine I enjoyed.  I’m okay with a wine cooler, just not straight wine.)

French Onion Soup.

Cow’s Tongue

(My mom loves cold cow’s tongue sandwiches.  I think she was dropped as a baby.)

Shredded Wheat

Braunschweiger. Smells as bad as it sounds.

Fancy Christmas Cookies

(Give me the old standard chocolate chip.  No balls, pinwheels or weird shapes.)

(I’ve never tried it and never will)

(Fruit with hair.  I pass)

Gummy Bears. Just get stuck in my teeth-not worth the effort.

Coconut & Pineapple

(Let’s hope I never get stuck on a tropical island.)

Crab Legs

(I love crab but crab legs are too fiddly for my MS fingers)

Cavatelli Pasta

(It’s official, no one likes it.)

I am sure there are more I could add to the list.

Perhaps you have a few foods you would like to see here.  I encourage you to share them in a comment for all to see.

Let’s get serious.

Again, the study & findings are real.

My useless musings are strictly for entertainment only.

Let’s cure this damn disease.

  1. I have to agree with some of your choices. Cow tongue, really, who normally would eat This? And regular liver and onions and shredded wheat, can’t say yuck enough. If you eat shredded wheat, why not just hay or straw? Prob cheaper! I don’t know if I agree with this study, so therefore I eat what I want and just move on. It’s hard enough to live with MS, so we don’t need all this “fake news” Lol

  2. I did the math. Out of the 25 items you mentioned, I like 14 of them. As far as I know, I was never dropped on my head as a baby. I like pineapple on my pizza. I know I’m in the minority on that one. I do NOT like Liver, fruit in my ice cream, or yogurt. You are right, NO ONE likes fruit cake. But I hear they make a great door stopper.

    1. Joanne,
Appreciate your comment! My mom made liver & onions with fried potatoes, so I got used to eating it as a kid. It wasn’t a fav but it wasn’t as bad as everyone says either. (Lots of ketchup was the key I suppose.)

    2. Margaret,
Glad we can agree on something! I have tried pineapple on pizza and to be honest, it was pretty good! As far as ice cream goes, I also do not like anything chewable hidden inside–unless it is brownie bits!

      Thanks for your comment!

  3. I agree with much on your allergy 😬 list but coffee! It tastes good if you eat something sweet with it. Who does like fruitcake? My mil eats things like a tongue but she was raised during a bad time…..

    1. Kim,
You must be right about the tongue. My mom grew up with very little. Good explanation.
      Thank you for your comment.
