I just saw a commercial for LifeAlert featuring C. Everett Koop, a former Surgeon General. C. Everett was our country’s 13th Surgeon General, serving in the position from 1982 till 1989.

But he is, by far, our country’s most popular Surgeon General.

I mean, can you name ANY of the previous 12? Or any since his term? Heck, outside of Hawkeye Pierce I can’t name even one surgeon–let alone a Surgeon General.

I think the allure of Koop’s popularity can be attributed to his famous facial hair.

Power of the beard.

This guy had the gig for six years—and that was two decades ago—yet, he is instantly recognized. He’s like the Colonel Sanders of Surgeon Generaldom! His Q factor is astronomical!

Power of the beard.

I remember nothing of his legacy. His work did nothing to change my life. But I know he IS C. Everett Koop, former Surgeon General of the United States.

Power of the beard.

I want to see if the power of the beard can work for me too.

Respect. Honor. Admiration.

Here’s a tip of the hat to our nation’s most popular Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop.
